Although Barbados and China have 37 years of cordial relations between them, the time has come to build stronger linkages through business and trade.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss, expressed these sentiments recently when the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador, Wang Ke, called on him at his Reef Road office.

Mr. Inniss stated that it would be ideal if Barbados could increase its exports to China as he believed that this country had some niche products that could be marketed to the Far-East.

Stating that Barbados was open to learning how to do business in China, the Minister said this was evident by the presence of a Barbadian delegation currently undergoing a three-week business seminar in Beijing. He also told the Ambassador that Barbados received two visits from Provinces in China and several Chinese entrepreneurs came here not only to offer their products, but to also see what we as a country, had to offer China.

Ambassador Wang said she was ???all for??? improving on the already strong bond that existed and noted that agriculture, education, bilateral trade and solar energy were areas worth exploring.

In turn, Mr. Inniss said his Ministry was ???eager??? to learn more about China???s industrial sector as Barbados needed to retool and rethink how it was conducting its business. He mentioned agro-processing as a possible area of collaboration, noting that Barbados could learn from China as that country had done well in agriculture and manufacturing.
