Barbadians who wish to study in the United Kingdom (UK) for the coming academic year are reminded that they should apply for a student visa as soon as possible and must obtain one prior to travelling.

In this regard, the British High Commission has advised that: ???Visas for the UK are processed in New York, with a target turn-around time of 20 working days.?? But students should allow at least this period before departure.???

Students must download and complete the VAF9 self-assessment form to??????

be found on that site, as well as complete the online visa application and payment forms at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.

All students will need to submit an online application; pay the correct fee; submit on paper the mandatory VAF9 self-assessment form; have the required amount of maintenance based on the length and location of the course as detailed in the guidance; and produce a Visa Letter from the education provider. More information may be obtained from www.ukvisas.gov.uk, where advice can be found on all aspects of applying.?? Should applicants want to discuss their application, they should call the information service Worldbridge Helpline +44 (20) 8099 5455. (There is a fee equivalent to US$13 to make this call.)

The UK’s new Points Based System Tier 4 (General Student) visa makes the application for the student visa transparent and straight forward. The new requirements are also explained in a short animated video published on the UK Border Agency YouTube channel titled: ???Your guide to new student visa???.
