Students aged 14 to 17, who attend private and public educational institutions, are invited to participate in the Ministry of Tourism???s Annual Speech Competition.

The initiative, which is a part of the Tourism Education Awareness and Me (TEAM) programme, aims to develop students??? knowledge on tourism issues.

Competitors will be required to present on one of the following topics: Experiential Tourism, Intra-Regional Travel, or Destination Health and Safety. In addition, the students will have to present for one minute on a ???Mystery Tourism Topic???.

This year???s competition will include an orientation on Wednesday, February 11, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., which will expose participants to aspects of the local and regional tourism industry in relation to the speech topics. Students will also learn about communication and etiquette techniques.

The student who wins the Ministry of Tourism???s Annual Speech Competition will be designated Junior Minister of Tourism 2015. He or she will also be given the opportunity to represent Barbados at the Regional Tourism Youth Congress, hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation.

In addition, the Junior Minister will receive a tablet, a BDS $300 gift certificate, a staycation and a three-week summer internship within the industry, based on the age of the candidate. Prizes will also be given to the first and second runners-up.

Schools are invited to select one student to represent them in the competition and appoint another to serve as a reserve. Entries must only be submitted through the school of the candidate no later than Friday, February 6.
