The inaugural Agricultural Food Cooking Competition and Quiz has been praised for bringing to the fore, a young group of Barbadian agriculturalists keen on contributing to the development of this country???s food security.

In fact, New Zealand???s High Commissioner, Jan Henderson is of the belief that students who participated in that competition will also recognise the importance of good quality food to nutrition and the need to protect the environment by using sustainable agricultural practices.

She made these comments at the prize- giving ceremony today at her official residence in Sugar Hill, St. James for the students of The Alleyne School, Coleridge & Parry, The Lodge School and the winning school, Frederick Smith Secondary School.

Pointing out that the Competition achieved its goal of highlighting agriculture in action, Mrs. Henderson told her audience which included Parliamentary Secretary in the Education Ministry, Senator Harcourt Husbands, principals and students that New Zealanders were themselves passionate about agriculture.

???It is a major sector for the New Zealand economy and is seen as a high tech industry attracting talent, entrepreneurship, investment and research,??? she stressed.

The High Commissioner also thanked the Royal Commonwealth Society and Caribbean Cuisine headed by Peter Edey for their involvement and noted that the project was part of the Sir Clifford Husbands Agricultural Challenge and a vehicle for engaging Barbadian youth who share a passion for agriculture.??
