Barbados’ two top entrants in the 2009 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Children’s Environmental Poster Competition will receive their cash prizes this coming Thursday, April 16, in a prize-giving ceremony at the Ministry of Tourism, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill.

Both students are from the Alexandra School in St. Peter. In the junior division, the winner was 12-year old Talea Bassett-Philips, while 14-year old Charissa Celia Hinds won the senior division.

The ceremony gets under way at 9:00 a.m., in the Ministry’s Conference Room and will be addressed by Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, who will also present each of the finalists with a cash award of US $200.00, donated by the FCCA Foundation.

Following the presentation, the two students, their parents and teachers will be treated to a tour and lunch on board the cruise ship, Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Foster and Ince Cruise Services to provide the students with some insight into the day-to-day operations of the vessel and its environmental health practices.
