Persons now have more time to obtain application forms for the Affordable Housing Component of the Housing and Neighbourhood Upgrading Programme (HNUP) of the Ministry of Housing and Lands.

Application forms and brochures are available until May 21 from the??Loans Department of the National Housing Corporation (NHC), Country Road, St. Michael; the Oistins, Speightstown, Holetown and General Post Offices; and all branches of the Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union;??the City of Bridgetown??Cooperative Credit Union;??and the Barbados Workers Union Cooperative Credit Union.??

To assist individuals with requests for the subsidies, the Ministry will also host an Application Fair on Friday, May 28 and Saturday, May 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.?? each day, in the car park of the NHC. ??The grant of a maximum of $10,000 or 70 per cent of total project costs is intended to allow low income householders to undertake minor repairs or renovations to their homes.

To qualify, persons must be citizens of Barbados, with a monthly income of $2666 or less, or weekly earnings of $667 or less, have never benefited from Government housing assistance, own the house to be improved, and should be able to secure the additional 30 per cent of costs required to finance the renovations.?? Completed application forms should be returned to the Loans Department of the NHC by Saturday, May 29, along with: a certified job letter; a current payslip; proof of ownership of the house and/or land; permission from the land owner to improve the dwelling (for persons who own their house but rent land, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); an estimate of works to be undertaken (including material and labour costs, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); a bank statement covering three months, an approved letter from a financial institution regarding the additional funding required for the project and Barbados ID numbers and dates of birth of all householders.

Funding is being provided at a cost of BDS$ 6 million, through a module of the HNUP, an infrastructural development pilot project for low-income neighbourhoods.??The BDS $80 million programme is funded by Government and the Inter-American Development Bank.??
