Landscape and History: Re-framing Harewood is the theme of an illustrated talk which will be given next Tuesday, February 21, by the Earl of Harewood, David Lascelles.
It will be held at the Barbados Museum, the Garrison, St. Michael, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Lascelles name has been associated with Barbados for over three centuries, as the family owned several plantations here. The Lascelles were 18th century bankers and traders, and their business included sugar cane cultivation and the slave trade.
Harewood House, an 18th century Palladian mansion set in a rolling green landscape, designed by Capability Brown, was built in England by the family. It was awarded Designated Museum status in 1998; a tribute to the quality of the collections and the care with which they are looked after.
