The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is still accepting applications for the CLICO Barbados Teacher of the Year Award.

According to Chairman of the awards committee and Senior Education Officer, Joy Gittens, the deadline for applications is next Friday, September 25.?? She expressed concern that nominations had been slow in coming to the Ministry and is appealing to teachers and school administrators to recommend educators at their respective institutions for the competition.

To qualify, teachers must be working full time in a public or private nursery, primary or secondary school and have a minimum of five years’ teaching experience.?? Additionally, applicants should be Barbadian citizens or foreign nationals residing here for at least five years and have a minimum of two years remaining in the teaching service.

The Teacher of the Year 2009 will receive BDS$10,000, a trophy, an all expenses paid trip to an educational conference, a term away from school, dinner for two and subscription to a magazine of their choice.
