Both teenagers and adults can take advantage of two technology programmes being offered through the Community Development Department later this year to assist them in honing their technological skills.
The Information Technology Summer Teens Programme (ITS for Teens) will be held from Monday, July 21, to Friday, August 29, and is being offered at twelve resource centres across the island.
It aims to expose teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 to the fundamentals of Web Page Design, Computer Graphics, proper and productive use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite.
Youth who participate in the six-week programme will receive a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) upon completion. Additionally, a number of prizes will be awarded for individual and group projects.
The Community Technology Programme (CTP) is also scheduled to restart on Monday, September 22, at 17 resource centres, including the Parkinson Community Centre in The Pine, St. Michael.??The 10-week course, which is free to members of the public, will be offered at levels One and Two.
Level One comprises Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Email, Introduction to Internet, Introduction to XP and Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010, while the second level covers Word and Power Point 2010, Excel and Publisher 2010, Access 2010 and Outlook and Internet.
Persons participating in this programme can also now apply to the resource centres to be assessed for the NVQ.
Community Centres are located in Bush Hall, Bonnetts, Deacons, Grazettes and Haggatt Hall in St. Michael; St. Christopher and Briar Hall in Christ Church; Rices and St. Marks in St. Philip; Speightstown and Black Bess in St. Peter; Drax Hall, Valley and Greens in St. George; Weston in St. James and St. Elizabeth in St. Joseph.
