To celebrate World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, the Telecommunications Unit will host an exhibition in Heroes Square, Bridgetown, next Tuesday, May 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Various government and private sector agencies will be on hand displaying and highlighting the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Chairperson of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, Thelma Clarke, said such an event was necessary to highlight the importance of technology in day-to-day life.

"These various bodies are coming together either as information technology specialists, or users or suppliers of IT equipment to interact with the public on the methods and benefits of using ICTs in their businesses.?? It will also be a time for educating the public on how they can make life better by using ICTs in every aspect of their day-to-day life."

World Telecommunications and Information Society Day was introduced worldwide to build and raise awareness on how the internet and other Information and Communication Technologies could benefit societies.?? Since 1969, it has been celebrated annually on May 17.
