When the Barbados Museum and Historical Society’s 2009 lecture series continues next week, it will be the turn of local historian and university lecturer, Dr. Pedro Welch to speak on slavery in Barbados.

His presentation, entitled “The Enslaved in Town”, will take place next Tuesday, March 17, at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael, starting at 8:00 p.m.

The following week, Tuesday, March 24, Dr. Tara Inniss will look at “How the Enslaved Lived: Gender and Family Issues”, while on March 31, Dr. Marcia Burrowes will examine “How the Enslaved Lived: Independent Social and Cultural Activity.”

The penultimate lecture, “Slavery from the Ground Up: The Archaeological Evidence” will take place on Tuesday, April 7, and will be presented by Dr. Thomas Loftfield.

The series concludes the following week, Tuesday, April 14, with Professor Alvin Thompson speaking on the topic, “Testing the Chains: Resistance to Slavery”.
All lectures will be held at Solidarity House, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The series is being held in conjunction with the Department of History of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
