There is a promise from the newly-appointed head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Ambassador Mikael Barfod, to continue working with the region on issues such as climate change and security.

He gave this undertaking recently during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at Ilaro Court.

During the meeting, the Ambassador praised the maturity of the relationship between government and the EU and outlined ways in which it could be strengthened.

Likewise, the Prime Minister also acknowledged the long-standing association with the European group of nations and added that the foundation had already been laid to forge closer ties.

"The kind of assistance you have given has contributed massively to the development of the Caribbean.?? Of course, you have the Economic Partnership Agreement which has carried the relationship to another level.?? Over time, I expect the fruits of that labour will be manifested to the benefit of both sides," Mr. Stuart noted.

The two officials also shared their mutual on a range of other topics, including human rights and the impact of sea level rise on vulnerable economies and greening initiatives.
