Children between the ages of 10 and 14 will again be sensitised to the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles, through the National Nutrition Centre’s (NNC) summer camps.??

The camps, which are part of the NNC’s community outreach programme, will seek to instill good nutritional habits and promote healthy lifestyles among participants.

The two-week camps will run from Tuesday, August 4 to Friday, August 14, at the Ellerslie Secondary School, Black Rock, St. Michael and the Combermere School in Waterford, St. Michael.

Among its key objectives are to create an awareness and educate adolescents on their nutritional needs, through the preparation of healthy dishes using local foods, as well as fostering and creating a general interest in food security methods, such as kitchen gardening.

Camp activities will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily, with the inclusion of discussions and hands-on experience that will help adolescents to acquire positive healthy attitudes.

Interested persons can register from Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31, at the NNC, Ladymeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Parents seeking to enroll their wards in this year’s camp are reminded that if children have respiratory illnesses such as a cold or flu, with persistent coughing or sneezing, ??they should be kept at home.
