Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has assured the country that measures are being put in place to protect the residents of the Geriatric Hospital, after three staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking during this evening’s COVID-19 update and press conference via Zoom, Prime Minister Mottley revealed those affected were “two kitchen staff and a member of the nursing fraternity”.

“They are literally now aggressively doing the contact tracing, and will take the necessary action to be able to put the staff rotation to protect all of the residents at the Geriatric Hospital, who by the way were all tested and all of them came back negative,” she said.

Ms. Mottley explained that the cases were identified out of tests conducted on all residents and members of staff, following the discovery of the first case involving a patient at the Beckles Road, St. Michael institution, recently.

“As you know, we had an issue last week that Minister Bostic would have raised. We took preemptive action there…but in the testing that was done overall…we have three persons that have [tested positive].

“We are in the process of looking to see how we can facilitate those staff members in terms of accessing more hotel accommodation for quarantine facilities for them, as is necessary,” she said, adding that authorities were working to determine the best course of action.
