Barbados has three new Justices of the Peace (JPs).

In a ceremony held at Government House earlier today, the new JPs, one male and two females, took the Oaths of Allegiance and Office before Governor General Dame Sandra Mason.

Those sworn in today were Evril Lewis-Browne, Angelia Sharif, and Warren Mottley.

Dame Sandra congratulated the new JPs, and advised them that a Justice of the Peace has a very significant and serious role to perform in assisting the inhabitants of this island.  She also encouraged them, as they go forward, to take their oath seriously.

Justices of the Peace are recommended by Members of Parliament. They are appointed by a Warrant, issued by the Governor General and on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Signing and certifying the validity of copies of official documents is one of the many duties performed by JPs. The new JPs stated that they are up to the task to doing what is right for their country and that it is an honour and privilege to serve as JPs.
