Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite (FP)

Government will be working towards improving the working conditions of police officers across the island, and with this in mind three new police stations are on the cards and a refurbishing programme will be undertaken on those which are in need of repairs.

This was disclosed by Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, who was speaking recently at the 134th Passing out Parade, at the Regional Police Training Centre.

The Attorney General said the new stations would be at Belleplaine, St. Andrew; Cane Garden, St. Thomas; and Wildey, St. Michael.?? The latter is expected to share the work load carried out by the District ???A’ Police Station.??

Mr. Brathwaite stated that Government was aware of the need to provide "administrative support and guidance" for the Force.

"As Attorney General, I have assessed the conditions of the accommodation at many of the police stations. Some are in dire need of repair or replacement…and Government is actively working on improving the working conditions at several police stations and also moving towards the provision of new stations," he said.

Repairs are currently being undertaken at the Boarded Hall station, St. George, and plans are in the pipeline for refurbishing work at the Black Rock station in St. Michael.

There are also plans to amalgamate the Hastings and Worthing Police Stations in Christ Church.
