Statistics issues will feature prominently next week when three important meetings are held in Barbados.

The Fortieth Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) will take place from Monday, October 26, to Wednesday, October 28, while the Twenty-Fifth Meeting of the Regional Census Coordinating Committee will be on Thursday, and the one-day Eighth Regional Statistical Research Seminar will be on Friday.

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, will deliver the feature address at the opening ceremony for the three meetings next Monday, October 26, at United Nations House, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Director of the Barbados Statistical Service, Aubrey Browne; Representative, UN Women Multi-Country Office – Caribbean, Christine Arab; and Project Director, Regional Statistics, CARICOM Secretariat, Dr. Philomen Harrison, will give remarks.

A CARICOM-organised meeting, the SCCS brings together the heads of national statistical offices from member countries in the region, including associate members, regional and international statistical organisations and funding agencies, which support the development of statistics in the Caribbean. The last meeting was in Guyana in 2014.

The Regional Census Coordinating Committee usually meets immediately after the SCCS to review progress, challenges and successes in the dissemination of the 2010 round of Population Censuses and to plan for the next round in 2020.

A Regional Statistical Research Seminar is held on the final day of the week of meetings, to promote research in statistics and improvements in methodologies used.
