Two girls and one boy have topped this year???s Barbados Secondary Schools??? Entrance Examination (BSSEE).
Jasmine Simmons of St. Angela???s and Jemma Evelyn of St. Winifred???s have tied for the top spot among the females, each with 100 in Mathematics; 98 in English and an ???A??? in Composition with a total score of 249.12 A.
The top boy is Dauntre Small of Arthur Smith Primary who scored 97 in Mathematics and 98 in English with a total score of 247.43 B and is also headed to Harrison College come September.
These were among the results disclosed earlier today by Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, during a press conference at the Elsie Payne Complex to discuss the performance of students in the exam, familiarly known as the Common Entrance or 11 Plus.
The Minister also alluded to the top 10 performers, three of whom came from the public primary schools. In addition to the three top students, the others on the list are: Zoe Stormes of St. Winifred???s; Danielle Treasure, St. Gabriel???s; Micah Williams, People???s Cathedral; Kimani Archer, Blackman & Gollop; Aza Dunwoody, St. Paul???s; Naleena Gaskin, Rock Christian and Adam Munroe, Trinity Academy.
Mr. Jones added that out of the 3,481 students who actually wrote the BSSEE, 3,297 or 94.7 per cent were allocated places in the public secondary schools, with 111 having been allocated by the Ministry of Education and not via technology.
He also pointed out that there were 46 exemptions, students who ???for one reason or other are unable to write the exam???, and these had been allocated to schools catering to their specific needs.
These are Alma Parris, The Ann Hill and special units at Erdiston, Charles F. Broome and Ellerton Primary Schools. Mention was also made of the nine ???early sitters???, who performed well and have been successfully placed.
