Persons operating private child care centres have been reminded that they must register their businesses or renew their licences by January 31, 2010.

That is the word from an official of the Child Care Board, who said it was illegal for any such establishment to function without a Certificate of Registration from the Board.

Failure to comply with the Board???s regulations, she explained, might result in closure or a penalty, which is a fine of $500 and or six months imprisonment.

All applications must be accompanied by a certificate of inspection from the Barbados Fire Service, a certificate of inspection and an appropriate food licence issued by the Ministry of Health, current medical certificates and Certificates of Character for all staff, as well as recent Food Handler???s Certificates for those who will handle food.

Additionally, all new applications and relocations must have the written approval of the Chief Town Planner to operate from the proposed site and a Certificate of Registration from the Corporate Affairs Office.

A processing fee of $50 will be charged for new applications or relocations, while the renewal fee is $20.

The official stressed that all changes to original applications should be reported in writing to the CCB???s Director, Fred Edghill Building, Cheapside, St. Michael.
