Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith. (FP)

The Commonwealth Sport Game Changers Grant Programme  (TAG) has been launched in Barbados under the title “Together and Growing”.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith delivered remarks at the launch which he attended with Barbadian youth at the St. Michael School, Martindales Road, Bridgetown, St. Michael, while administrators attended virtually from the United Kingdom.

The Minister told the youth, “If you recall what was told to you in the 13 weeks … I guarantee you that you will become a leader without even recognising that you have become a leader in your chosen sport.”

The TAG programme is not only a sports programme, but it seeks to capture the fundamentals of what is required to develop youth with its social component, which has a team-building element.

Vice President, Commonwealth Games Federation, Mr. Chris Jenkins told those present that: “Sport really can change people’s lives. It’s going to change you as well.”

“You don’t have to be brilliant at school to enjoy it, it teaches all of us so much about ourselves and each other. And we use those skills to not only improve ourselves, to help others and to help others improve.”

Minister Griffith assured those in attendance that the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment would continue to work with the programme.

“The Ministry remains committed to assisting you on this journey and we will continue to collaborate with the BOA and other strategic partners for your benefit and that of other young Barbadians.”
