Officials from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will tour Secondary Summer School 2013, next week, Tuesday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m.

They will visit the St. George Secondary School, one of the centres where first to third form students who have exhibited weaknesses in core subjects like Mathematics, English, Social Studies and Integrated Science are currently receiving assistance.

An opportunity will, therefore, be provided to the media to better understand what happens during the annual summer school programme which aims to reduce learning deficits and enhance students??? performance by paying attention to the students in a holistic manner.

Senior Education Officer (Secondary Schools), Fernando Carter, and Coordinator for the centre at St. George Secondary School, Dr. Dawn Taylor, will address the media. The remedial specialist as well as the guidance counsellors will also be on hand to discuss aspects of the programme including approaches to building students??? life skills; correcting weaknesses in aptitude and attitude; and psychological issues that may be the underlying reasons for weak performances.

St. George Secondary is hosting its own students along with those from The Alleyne, Grantley Adams Memorial and Parkinson Memorial.

Secondary Summer School 2013 is also being held at Christ Church Foundation, Ellerslie and Frederick Smith Secondary schools.
