The Korea Expo 2012 and increasing awareness about Barbados in the East were two of the main topics addressed today, when the South Korean Ambassador, Yongkyu Kwon, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy at his office at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The Ambassador, who is based in Trinidad, expressed a desire to see Barbados involved in the Expo, which has already received confirmation of participation from countries in the region.?? Minister Sealy alluded to Barbados’ success at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 and agreed that it was crucial for the island to be well-known in emerging markets and to take part in similar ventures. He suggested that there was a "major shift" going on with regard to markets of significance around the world, and said that Barbados must be ready to benefit from opportunities as they arose.??

Both the Minister and the Ambassador agreed that they were satisfied with the relationship between their respective nations, while acknowledging that there was always room for growth.?? Ambassador Kwon noted that although the distance between the two countries could limit tourism opportunities, the South Korean populace in North America could be a viable market, which would lead to greater awareness about Barbados.??
