Officials from the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, in collaboration with the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), are currently in the field conducting surveys, in order to construct a Tourism Satellite Account for Barbados.
According to officials from the ministry, the survey seeks to collect information on the percentage of domestic business, which properties in the tourism accommodation sector received over the last four years.
Accommodation establishments registered with the Barbados Tourism Product Authority for 2019 will be contacted by the BSS enumerators throughout this month. Persons will have the option to complete the survey immediately, or arrange to be interviewed at a later date.
The information being collected will assist with the construction of Tourism Satellite Account tables, and in obtaining a more realistic measure of tourism activity in the economy.
All information will be kept confidential, in accordance with the Statistical Act, Cap. 129. Enumerators, who will be working under BSS supervision, will have official identification cards.
