Students from 14 secondary schools across the island are set to compete next week in the Annual Speech Competition being organised by the Ministry of Tourism.

It will be held on Monday, March 9, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

It will take the form of a simulated board meeting where students will present their views, suggestions or ideas on one of the following topics: Experiential Tourism; Intra-Regional Travel; and Destination Health and Safety.

Students will also be given a mystery tourism topic which will test their knowledge of the Barbados tourism product.

The winning student will be designated Junior Minister of Tourism for 2015 and will be given the opportunity to represent Barbados at the Regional Tourism Youth Congress, hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation as part of its Annual Conference in Cura??ao in September.

The victor will also be required to participate in other tourism-related activities organised by the Ministry of Tourism and its stakeholders, and will also be awarded an internship within the industry.

Participants will be Aliyah Reid and Kobie Broomes, representing The Alexandra School; Pierre Cooke and Jakaila Hewitt, The Alleyne School; Krystal Hoyte, Combermere School; Rashana Jones and Ricarla Best, Deighton Griffith Secondary; Ashley Alkins, Graydon Sealy Secondary; Chlo?? Walker, Harrison College; and John Hunte and Brittanie Edwards, Queen???s College.

Markeisha Carter will represent Springer Memorial; Runisha Harper and Akeila Selman, St. George Secondary; Travis Gardiner and Kiara Riley, The Lester Vaughan School; and Adiel Charles, The St. Michael School; Nicholas Hayward and Jada Falby, St. Winifred???s School; and Kindra Maynard and Dakota De Freitas, St. Ursula???s. There will also be a representative from Christ Church Foundation School.
