Those persons who have contributed to the development of Barbados’ tourism sector have been lauded for their efforts.
The accolades come today from Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, as he addressed participants of a Tourism Week Parade, which saw personnel from that sector travelling through Bridgetown.
Mr. Sealy said the activity was not new, as a parade was used to mark the Week in years gone by.?? "It is important that I acknowledge the private sector as well as the labour movement along with the public sector institutions that continue to drive this industry forward.
It is indeed representatives from those three areas that put this tourism week activity together as an opportunity for us to… acknowledge the persons who make a difference to the industry," he said.
The event, which started at the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), Harbour Road and travelled through the city to Independence Square, was led by the Royal Barbados Police Force Band and featured representatives from the tourism sector, including Chairman of the BTA, Adrian Elcock; its President, Urban Cumberbatch; and personnel from the Ministry of Tourism; Oistins Bay Gardens; Divi Southwinds; Ocean 2 Hotel and Lucky Horseshoe.?? ????
Crowds were treated to performances by the Tuk Band, Mother Sally, stilt walkers and a town crier, who shared information about the remaining Tourism Week events. They are: Night time netball and 20/20 cricket games on Thursday, December 13, at the Dover Playing Field, Christ Church, from 7:00 p.m.; a Tourism Togetherness concert on Friday, December 14, at Oistins Bay Garden, Christ Church, from 8:00 p.m.; and the Bajan Pride Expo: Christmas Edition, on Saturday, December 15, at Chalky Mount, St. Andrew, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
