The Arch Hall Fire Station. (BFS)

School and camp tours to fire stations remain suspended as the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) continues to implement measures to ensure the safety of their officers.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Henderson Patrick, explained that the BFS could not resume tours at this time as it could compromise the safety of an entire team.

“If we allowed that level of risk to come back into the fire stations … one fire officer affected by the virus means that everybody that is in that environment would have to be tested; would have to be quarantined, and then that could put not only a shift out of place, but perhaps it could put a whole station.

“We want to keep it as safe as possible. When the time comes for us to engage in that activity again, we want to ensure that we consult with the health officials to ensure that we have the best possible mechanisms in place. It is a matter of the safety for the personnel, and reducing the level of risk so that we can remain as operational competent as we like to be,” he stated.
