The Barbados Police Service has advised that a number of roads will be closed and there will be no parking in some areas, as a result of the Independence Day Parade, to be held on Wednesday, November 30, at Kensington Oval, St. Michael.
The parade route is from Fontabelle to Independence Square. Between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Fontabelle Road; Cheapside Road; Chapel Street; Prince Alfred Street; Hincks Street; Wharf Road; Trafalgar Street; Bridge Street; Marhill Street; Rickett Street; Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge; Probyn Street; Bay Street; Lower Bay Street; and Lower Fairchild Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
Additionally, Fontabelle Road, from its junction with Lakes Folly and Redman Drive to its junction at President Kennedy Drive and the Mighty Grynner Highway, (Holborn Circle) will be one-way, with vehicular traffic going in the direction of Mighty Grynner Highway.
President Kennedy Drive, from its junction with Westbury Road to its junction with Holborn Circle, will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except public service vehicles.
No driver or person in charge of a vehicle will be permitted to park or allow the vehicle to remain stationary on any of the following roads or adjoining footpaths, except for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers.
Those roads are: Fontabelle Road, Westbury Road; President Kennedy Drive; Cheapside Road; Redman Drive; Prescod Boulevard; the roadway leading to Hanschell Inniss; Pickwick Gap; University Row; Mighty Grynner Highway; Kensington New Road; St. Michael Row; Bridge Street; Marhill Street; and Rickett Street, St. Michael.
All drivers, riders, pedestrians and riders or leaders of animals using any of the roads specified in these rules, must exercise caution and comply with any order given by a member of The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) in uniform.
Any person who contravenes the rules or fails to comply with any order given by a member of TBPS in uniform, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $500, or to imprisonment for a term of three months. These rules do not apply to vehicles used by TBPS; Barbados Defence Force; Barbados Fire Service, or any emergency vehicle.
