Those persons who have been identified as camp assistants to work with this year’s National Summer Camp Programme are reminded that their training will continue over the next five weekends.

Training started last Saturday and will continue on Saturday, May 15, 22 and 29, at the CLICO Centre, University of the West Indies; and on Saturday, June 5 and 12, at the St. Michael School.

Close to 200 young people will be exposed to "Leadership and Team Building", "Achieving Personal Excellence", "Time Management", "Conflict Resolution and Health and Safety", "Programme Development", and "HIV/AIDS Awareness".

Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Stephen Lashley, has underscored the importance of prospective camp assistants accessing this training if they are to participate in the upcoming camps.

"These sessions have been developed to empower our camp assistants, while helping them to hone critical skills which are necessary in this sphere," Mr. Lashley said.

He pointed out that there will be some 70 camps in keeping with Government’s thrust to ensure that children are involved in wholesome activities during their summer vacation, under adult supervision.

More than 9,000 children participated in Government’s free National Summer Camp Programme last year.
