Training for temporary Barbados Statistical Service (BSS) field workers who were recruited to conduct the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), will get under way next week.

The sessions will be held from Monday, April 23 to Tuesday, May 8, in the conference room at UN House, Marine Gardens, Hastings, Christ Church, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., each day.

The training is designed to equip BSS staffers with the necessary skills to carry out the MICS. The sessions will consist of 10 days in the classroom and two days in the field.?? Following this, the field data collection process will commence from Monday, May 14 and conclude in July.

The MICS is an international household survey created and funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund and implemented by the BSS. It will seek to address data gaps for monitoring human development as it relates to women and children in areas such as nutrition, child discipline and education.

Data collected from MICS will be used to: develop evidence-based plans and policies; to assist government in its developmental initiatives; and to monitor social issues concerning women and children’s health, development and protection.

At the end of the exercise, the MICS survey is expected to improve the quality of other national surveys in the future.
