Another group of people will be trained early next year when the second Training of Trainers course for the Parent Support and Education Programme is put on by the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports.

Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., beginning January 4, and running to March 27.

Those persons interested in being trained should immediately contact the Ministry of Youth at telephone numbers 430-2915 or 430-2917.

This programme is aimed at developing a cadre of well trained and competent individuals who will deliver training to parents and prospective parents, so as to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to have healthy relationships with their children. At the end, participants should be able to identify and utilise the positive parenting traits they have learnt in an effort to enhance the quality of family life across the island.

The five modules to be taught during the 12-week session are: Parenting, Coping and Managing, Finding Self, Seeking Help and Action Planning.????????????????????????

Over $400,000 has been allocated this financial year to train the trainers, as well as about 240 parents.

At the launch of the first training of trainers session last May, Minister of Youth, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, described the programme as "multi-faceted". She noted that while it was not a "panacea", it would assist in healing some of the ills and pains that parents were forced to deal with on a daily basis. saustin@barbados.gov.bb
