A number of persons from member states of the Regional Security System (RSS) and locals will soon be given an opportunity to improve their boat handling and navigational skills.
The RSS will be conducting the RSS Training Institute Advance Coxswain Course 2019, which will be held from February 18 to March 22, at the Barbados Coast Guard Base, HMBS Pelican.
During the five-week course, participants will be exposed to a range of maritime subjects, including Nautical Terminology, Fundamentals of Seamanship, Boat Handling – Theory and Practical, Damage Control and Firefighting and International Law.
On completion of the course, participants should be capable of taking command of a small boat, be knowledgeable of survival of life at sea techniques, and be capable of understanding the procedures and protocols involved in marine communications, among others.
