Director of the Constituency Empowerment Department, Kirk Humphrey, addressing??the constituency council members during the orientation session.??

The new Director of the Constituency Empowerment Department, Kirk Humphrey, has urged members of the six recently-formed Constituency Councils to ensure that "trust" is paramount as they go about their duties.

He made this call while addressing the orientation session for them at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, last weekend.

Pointing out that government had gone ahead and established the Councils in spite of this recessionary period, Mr. Humphrey said it spoke "volumes of the role" that they must play.??

"It suggests that there is a relationship between the state and the Councils that must be built on trust. There is also trust that must be built between the community and the council members and a deeper trust in yourself. I would like to suggest that we do nothing to violate that trust. There can be nothing more foul right now than for us to do something to violate the trust that has been placed in us by the NGOs, the Church, the private sector and individual residents of the constituencies," he remarked.

"I ask that we do all in our power to ensure that we go forward in a way that is honest, disciplined and that considers as paramount the effects of the constituencies at all times," Mr. Humphrey stressed.

He added that he was thrilled by the excitement that had been brought to the entire process by council members.
