The International Tsunami Information Center Caribbean Office (ITIC-CAR) will be conducting a mission to Barbados from August 7 to 14. 

One of the agenda items during the mission is a visit by Deputy Director of ITIC-CAR, Christa G. von Hillebrandt-Andrade where she will undertake a study tour of St. Matthias to Rendezvous, Christ Church on Wednesday, August 10.

Following the tour there will be a community consultation at the St. Matthias Church Hall, led by Mrs. von Hillebrandt-Andrade, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Welcome remarks will be delivered by District Emergency Officer/Chairperson for Christ Church West, Ian Smitten; an overview of Tsunami Ready by Mrs. von Hillebrandt-Andrade and Programme Officer for Coastal Hazards (Tsunami Unit and Caribbean Tsunami Information Centre), Alison Brome.

There will also be an Introduction to Inundation and Evacuation Mapping by a representative from the National University of Costa Rica, Fabio Rivera and NOAA representative, Desiree Baymouth Garcia.

The exercise will be followed by a discussion with those in attendance. Afterwards, a representative of the Coastal Zone Management Unit/the Department of Emergency Management will summarize and wrap up the consultation.  

Senior Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, William Duguid, will deliver the closing remarks at 7:00 p.m.
