Sports issues will take centre stage over the next two days when the 17th special meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development on Sport (COHSOD) is convened in Guyana.
Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, and Director of the National Sports Council, Erskine King, will attend the CARICOM meeting, which will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, October 9, and end on Wednesday, October 10.
The officials will discuss: The Role of Physical Education and Sport in Fostering Talent in CARICOM Member States, Creating Opportunities For Greater Access to Regional Sports Programmes, the Realisation of Opportunities for Maximising on the Potential of Sport as a Business and Fostering Inclusive Sport and Physical Education.
Meanwhile, the technical sports officers met this afternoon and they examined a number of similar topics, including Factors Hindering the Effective Implementation of Physical Education and Sports Programmes in Schools and Communities, and Reactivating the Caribbean Games.
COHSOD is responsible for the promotion of human and social development in the Caribbean Community. Its role is to establish policies and programmes to promote the development of youth and women in the community, with a view to encouraging and enhancing their participation in social, cultural, political and economic activities; as well as support and establish projects for the development of culture and sports in the Caribbean.
