The final two Senators have been sworn in and the Upper House is now complete.

Senior Lecturer in Political Science and Head of the Department of Government, Sociology, and Social Work at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Kristina Hinds, and former Director of Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture and former Ambassador, Dr. Chelston Brathwaite, took the Oath of Office today before President of Barbados, Her Excellency The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, in a ceremony at State House.

Senator Hinds, who admitted she was completely surprised by the President’s selection, stated: “My interest for now is doing the best I can to ensure that I am a good Senator, that contributes to the benefit of Barbados.”

While Senator Brathwaite, who brings almost 50 years of experience in management, agriculture, and food security, said: “I see myself fitting into the role of a Senator … who brings to the table constructive analysis of challenges, who can identify opportunities and who can do all in my power to promote the development of Barbados.”

The ceremony was witnessed by the friends and family of the two newly-appointed Senators.
