There will be a short delay in the reopening of two of the island’s primary schools next month.

According to Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, “while we have basically completed our agenda for this year’s summer programme, two schools; St. Martin’s Four Roads and Christ Church Girls will experience a slight delay in reopening.”

He was speaking at press conference yesterday, when he revealed that St. Martin’s Four Roads and Christ Church Girls School will be reopening on September 8 and September 15, respectively.

Mr. Jones explained that the delays were partially due to bad weather. “The laying of the concrete surface in the middle of the school yard at St. Martin’s was delayed by rain. We need at least two to three days of sunlight for proper drying,” he said.

Stating that the Christ Church Girls School had undergone major work, Minister Jones pointed out that the Ministry would need 9 days of classroom contact in order to complete that facility. He also explained that major work was being carried out on the eastern block, where cracks in the floor were detected.

Work conducted during this year’s summer programme ranged in scope from the construction of prefab buildings, electrical work, external painting and repairs and general repairs, including repairs to classroom windows and doors.
