Members of the public will get a closer look at the work undertaken by the Urban Development Commission (UDC) to transform communities across urban Barbados, when that entity hosts several activities next week.
Under the theme Reflections of an Urban Era – 15 Years of Change and Progress, the activities will get underway with a church service on Sunday, August 12, at the St. Michael’s Cathedral, Bridgetown, starting at 9:00 a.m.??
The following day, Monday, August 13, University of the West Indies Principal and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, will deliver a lecture on the topic, The Empire Club and its Role in the Urban Community, at Frank Collymore Hall, Tom Adams Financial Centre, Church Village, St. Michael, commencing at 8:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, August 14, UDC staffers will learn more about the importance of trees and the green environment when Nigel Jones speaks on the topic: The Importance of Trees in the Urban Area.?? It will be held in the UDC’s Training Room, NSR Complex, Bridge Street, St. Michael, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.??
Later that day, there will be a clean-up of the Careenage as part of the???? Commission’s ???Green Environments, Urban Economics’ initiative.?? The event gets underway from 3:45 p.m.
On Wednesday, August 15, the UDC team will travel through a number of districts during a motorcade from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.?? Among the areas to be visited are Lakes Folly, Cave Hill, Government Hill and Goodland, all in St. Michael.?? They will also travel to Payne’s Bay, Fitts Village, Holder’s Hill and Pavilion Road, in St. James.?? The motorcade will also visit districts in the south of the island, including Oistins, Cane Vale Road and Forde’s Road, among others.
The Commission will throw open its doors to the public during its open day on Thursday, August 16, from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.?? The week will culminate with a staff appreciation day on Friday, August 17.
