Barbadians will have the opportunity to view memorabilia of Barbadian iconic figures, when the Barbados Museum and historical society mounts its Uncover, Recover, Discover exhibition this month.
The display is currently open for viewing from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m, and on Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at its Garrison, St. Michael, headquarters.
The exhibit will highlight popular exponents of the Calypso art-form, such as former Calypso Monarch Adrian Clarke and reigning Monarch Red Plastic Bag.?? It will also honour the contributions of National Heroes, Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Grantley Adams and feature the work of pioneering artist, Frances Griffith.
In addition, collection of works, already inscribed on the International Memory of the World Register from Trinidad and Barbados, respectively, will be on display.?? These include the Eric Williams, the CLR James and the Derek Walcott Collections and the Documentary Heritage of Enslaved Peoples of the Caribbean.
In 1992, UNESCO established the Memory of the World Programme to preserve the world’s heritage for access by future generations.????
The Uncover, Recover, Discover display was officially opened recently, by Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, during a reception for delegates attending the bi-annual meeting of the International Advisory Committee of the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme.
