The rate of unemployment for July to September 2015 stood at 11.3 per cent, with the unemployment rate among males being 12.8 per cent and 9.7 per cent among females.

This is according to statistics derived from the Barbados Statistical Service???s Continuous Household Labour Force Survey. In the review period, the number of persons employed totalled 128,400, while the total number of unemployed persons stood at 16,300.??

In total, the number of persons in the labour force stood at 144,600. The number of persons not actively looking for work, hence excluded from the labour force, was 77,400 persons. The Labour Force participation rate stood at 65.1 per cent, with participation among males at 68.5 per cent and 62.1 per cent among females.

In the third quarter of 2015, the??Wholesale & Retail Trade Sector??generated jobs for the largest number of persons, employing 20,300 persons, while the??Accommodation & Food Services Sector??employed 15,300 persons.??The Construction, Mining & Quarrying Sector??generated employment for 11,600 persons, while 10,700 persons found work in the??Public Administration & Defence Sector.??

Employment in the??Manufacturing Sector??reached 10,400 persons, while the??Human Health & Social Work Sector??reached 8,100 persons. The??Education Sector and the Other Groups Sector, which includes the??Information and Communications, Activities of Extraterritorial Organisations & Bodies, Real Estate & Arts, Entertainment and Recreation??industries, generated employment for 6,800 and 7,500 persons, respectively.

The??Transportation & Storage Sector??employed 6,100 persons, while the??Finance & Insurance Sector??and the??Administrative & Support Service Sector??each generated employment for 5,800 persons. Employment in the??Activities of Households as Employers Sector??stood at 5,100 persons, while employment in the??Professional, Scientific & Technical Services Sector??stood at 5,000 persons.??

The employment generated in the??Other Services Sector??was 3,600 persons. During the review period, employment levels in the??Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing Sector??stood at 3,200 persons. The??Electric, Gas, Steam, Water & Air Conditioning Supply Sector??generated jobs for 3,100 persons during the period.
