A three-member delegation from Fort Valley State University called on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, on Monday as part of a recruitment drive to get Barbadian students interested in their institution.

During the meeting which took place at the Ministry???s Culloden Road headquarters, President of the University, Ivelaw Griffith, and Senator McClean discussed ways in which Fort Valley could partner with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, and the Barbados Community College to offer a variety of programmes.

Minister McClean noted that the programmes being offered by the University were attractive, as they focused on practical aspects of the courses offered and not only on academia.??She added that she would be happy to facilitate any exchange of information between the Fort Valley State University and educational institutions here.

Mr. Griffith in turn explained that his institution was also looking at the possibility of introducing specialised courses, which would be significantly shorter than a Bachelors or Master???s programme. He also pointed out that they were exploring the option of partnering with a number of regional and international organisations in order to facilitate scholarships to his university.

Another member of the delegation, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Family Science and Technology, Professor Govind Kannan, gave an overview of the production aspect of their agriculture programme which included the by-products of goat milk: cheese, ice-cream, infant formula and soap, as well as sausages and pork jerky.

Director of Admissions, Calandra Wright, was also part of the delegation.
