Press conference on the Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination and other education matter hosted by Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Santia Bradshaw. (Public Affairs Department)

The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT), is well advanced in its preparations for the administration of this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) examinations.

This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Education Officer and Local Registrar, Dr. Roderick Rudder, during a press conference this afternoon.

Dr. Rudder revealed that the Ministry had accepted the opportunity presented by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) “to offer students the opportunity to write as many of their Paper Ones, which would be the multiple choice papers, using the e-testing platform this year”.

“We’ve come to a decision that would be an option which would be best utilised by our students to ensure that they are able to complete their examinations and get the results back in as timely a manner as possible,” he stated.

He said the decision to accept CXC’s offer was made after several meetings with principals, teachers and the unions, and on the results of a survey completed by the students.

The CSEC AND CAPE written exams are scheduled to commence on Monday, June 28, and will run until Friday, August 6.

The Deputy Chief Education Officer also gave an update on the request for reviews regarding CXC’s 2020 examination results.

“At the CSEC level, there is approximately 98 per cent completion of the return of the results of the reviews.  At this stage, there are approximately 44 candidates who are awaiting the results of their request for reviews at the CSEC level and only about seven candidates at the CAPE level to have their results returned.

“And we are working closely with the Caribbean Examinations Council and the schools to ensure that we are able to resolve all of the requests for reviews that have been submitted to the Caribbean Examinations Council,” Dr. Rudder stated.
