It is the wish of the Government of Barbados, that United States of America (USA) Attorney General, Eric Holder, who was born in New York City to parents with roots in Barbados, will pay a visit here soon.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, who is attending the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, indicated during an interview yesterday, that the Government would want to encourage Mr. Holder to visit Barbados “at the first opportunity”.

“I believe that it is important that we recognise his significant achievement and we would want to honour him as would be fitting in the circumstances,” Minister McClean noted.

She described the possible visit as “a priority for government” and indicated that further details would be provided once it was formalised.

Mr. Holder, a veteran Washington lawyer, is the first African- American to head the Justice Department of the USA.  His father, Eric Himpton Holder, Sr. was born in St. Joseph, and his maternal grandparents hailed from St. Philip.
