Two computers built by students of the University of the West Indies (UWI), with parts donated by PricewaterhouseCoopers and D.E. Computers Unlimited Inc., will be handed over to the Maria Holder Nursery School on Thursday, June 26.

Students from the Computer Science discipline within the Faculty of Science and Technology at the UWI will make the presentation to Principal, Shelley Boyce, in a brief ceremony at the school in Sharon, St. Thomas, at 9:30 a.m.

The UWI students are also expected to provide original edutainment software for the pupils during the handover ceremony.

Giving the background to the development of the computer systems, Lecturer in charge of the project, Adrian Als, said they were assembled by students during an experiential exercise within their Computer Architecture course, which focused on the salient features of modern computer systems.

According to him, collaboration between the university and D.E. Computers Unlimited Inc. realised the computer components that were used to build the system, while PricewaterhouseCoopers was instrumental in providing financial resources to complete one of the systems.

Principal, Shelley Boyce, and Education Officer for Early Childhood Education, Catherine Blackman, will address the event.
