Acting Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd????

The donation of footballs to the Circle Ks at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus is a positive step in honing the talents and skills of youth at that institution.

That was the opinion of acting Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd yesterday.?? He made the remarks while receiving the footballs on behalf of the Circle Ks from the Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown and All Round Cleaning Solutions Inc.?? The presentation took place at the University’s Paradise Park, Lazaretto location.

"It is not a coincidence that the framers of the Education Act in the early twentieth century outlined the notion of a healthy mind in a healthy body as it emphasised the importance of combining physical education with academic learning.

This philosophy is well grounded in sound scientific research.?? In an article from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development entitled ???Physical Activity and Learning 2006′, it was noted that when children participate in sporting activities, more oxygen flows to the brain and they are more receptive to learning," he added.

Noting that the two businesses who donated the footballs had obviously made the crucial connection between physical activity and receptivity to learning, Mr. Todd thanked them for their contribution to the improvement of students’ development in Barbados.??

The Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown and All Round Cleaning Solutions Inc. are expected to make similar donations to other schools across the island. kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
