Barbadians travelling to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, June 12 to July 13, are reminded that they must be fully vaccinated against measles, rubella and yellow fever.

In Barbados, the only facility registered to administer the yellow fever vaccine is the Winston Scott Polyclinic, located on Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael.

According to the Ministry of Health, all the vaccines must be administered on the same day to ensure optimal response and to avoid a waiting period of four weeks between vaccines. Vaccines should also be administered at least two weeks before departure.

Travellers are also advised to protect themselves against vector-borne diseases while in Brazil by using insect repellent; sleeping under a bed net; and wearing light-coloured and long-sleeved shirts and long pants while outdoors.

To avoid contracting respiratory diseases, the Ministry further advises that persons wash their hands often and avoid contact with persons who are sick.

On their return, they should notify port health officers at the Grantley Adams International Airport if they are experiencing fever, rash, cough or runny nose.
