The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will host a press briefing via video conferencing tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, to mark the launch of the second Caribbean Wellness Day, scheduled for September 12.

It will be held at the CSME Unit, Central Bank Building, Church Village, Bridgetown at 10.30 a.m.

Caribbean Wellness Day, which focuses on the theme ???Love that Body’, is one way of trying to reduce the incidence of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs), such as heart disease, hypertension, cancer, and diabetes.

During the briefing, presentations will be made by Pan American Health Organisation expert in the field, Dr. Alafia Samuels, and Assistant Secretary General of CARICOM, Dr. Edward Greene and other officials.

It is reported that the Caribbean has the worst mortality and morbidity profiles for CNCDs, which are the predominant cause of illness and the most common causes of death.

The press briefing will also provide the media with information about the pace of implementation of the 15 actionable points coming out of the Port of Spain Declaration at the 2007 Heads of Government Summit on NCDs.

Media personnel interested in attending the briefing is advised to email piu@caricom.org, or dcampbell@caricom.org.
