The Co-operatives Development Planning Committee, in collaboration with the Co-operatives Department in the Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, will host a virtual event to celebrate International Day of Co-operatives 2021, #CoopsDay.

Under the theme: Rebuild better together the aim of the virtual #CoopsDay event will be held on Wednesday, June 30, from 6:00 p.m. on the Zoom platform.

The objective of the event is to draw the world’s attention to the movement across the globe and to promote its successes, principles of democracy, equality, self-help and solidarity, along with its ethical values of honesty, openness and social responsibility.

The guest speaker will be President of the Barbados Sustainable Energy Co-operative Society Limited, Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Browne. 

During the session, there will be an address by the President of the Barbados Co-operative Business Association (BCBA), Algernon Johnson, who will talk about the work and benefits of the Association, and presentations from a number of co-operatives in the agricultural sector.

Additionally, a special project will be launched by the Co-operative Investment Fund Society Limited and the Barbados Co-operative Business Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Through #CoopsDay, local and international decision makers, civil-society establishments and the general public can learn more about the contribution of co-operatives to the socio-economic development in Barbados and across the world. 

This year’s celebration will be the 27th International Day of Co-operatives recognised by the United Nations and the 99th International Co-operative Day.
