The Geriatric Hospital. (FP)

As Barbados readies itself for the public health challenge of COVID-19, a decision has been taken to restrict visits to all Government-run geriatric institutions.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anton Best, said today that in an effort to protect the elderly population, who were most vulnerable to respiratory diseases, visits will be restricted to the Geriatric Hospital, Beckles Road, St, Michael; the St. Lucy District Hospital, River Bay, St. Lucy; the St. Philip District Hospital, Jezreel, St. Philip; and the Gordon Cummins Hospital, Rock Hall, St. Thomas.

With immediate effect, all visits by groups, including churches, schools and service organizations, will be curtailed until further notice.  Visits by relatives and friends will be restricted to regular visiting hours between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. daily.

Persons experiencing sore throat, cough, runny nose or fever are requested not to visit.  All visitors are being requested to limit the time spent at the hospitals.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness urges the cooperation of the public in this matter.
