Members of the public will once again be allowed to visit their loved ones at the Geriatric Hospital on Beckles Road.??

The Ministry of Health has advised that from tomorrow, Wednesday, July 14, the ban on visits to all wards at that institution, will be lifted.??

According to Chief Medical Officer (Ag), Dr. Elizabeth Ferdinand, "no new cases related to the outbreak of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) have been reported in the last week and the situation has returned to normal".

Meanwhile, the daycare service provided by the Geriatric Hospital from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. will re-open on Thursday July 15, to those persons who are currently enrolled.????

The Ministry of Health has expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding during the past few weeks.??

Visits to the Geriatric Hospital were suspended last month following an increase in cases of RSV. Respiratory Syncytial Virus is the predominant cause of respiratory illnesses in young children and the elderly and is not related to the H1N1 virus.??

It has been the dominant respiratory virus isolated in Barbados this year. jgill@barbados.gov.bb
