Visits to the St. Philip District Hospital have been temporarily halted, with immediate effect.

The institution, located at Jezreel, near Ruby, St. Philip has been seeing cases of gastroenteritis, over the past few days.

This was disclosed by the Principal Nursing Officer (PNO), Lolene Rawlins, who said that immediate steps have been taken to treat those persons who have been affected and to ensure that proper hygiene practices are followed by staff and patients.

“In the interim, the hospital, which cares for elderly patients, has restricted visits to the institution, by members of the public, until further notice,” Mrs. Rawlins added.

According to the PNO, “This is in the interest of the health of visitors and patients.”

Management of the Hospital has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused as a result of this temporary measure.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has reported an increase in the incidence of gastroenteritis in Barbados and is urging persons to the take the necessary precautions.
